What you're practising with, and where it comes from

Every practice item, every reading passage, every multiple-choice question, every writing prompt, every speaking cue card, is original content written by ImmigratEasy. We do not reproduce real IELTS, CELPIP, PTE Core, TEF Canada, or TCF Canada exam questions, because those questions are copyrighted by their test makers and using them without a licence would be unlawful.

Our items are written to mirror the official format, item types, difficulty calibration (CLB 4-10), and topic mix of each test. Where we provide a model answer (Writing Task 1 letters, Task 2 essays, etc.), it is a sample we authored at the target band, useful as a reference, not a promise of any specific score.

Items are tagged with a status field. Only items marked approved are ever shown to learners. Anything in pending_review is a draft scaffold we keep in the codebase for future content QA, it will never appear in your study session, diagnostic, or practice test.

The rubrics our scoring engine uses for Writing and Speaking are paraphrased from the publicly-available official band descriptors published by each test maker:

• IELTS: IELTS.org public band descriptors (2024-09 revision) for Writing Task 1 (GT), Writing Task 2, and Speaking.
• CELPIP-General: Paragon Testing Enterprises public CELPIP performance descriptors.
• PTE Core: Pearson PTE Core public score descriptors.
• TEF Canada: France Education International (FEI) public TEF Canada level descriptors.
• TCF Canada: CIEP public TCF Canada performance levels.

We paraphrase rather than copy verbatim because (1) the full descriptors are very long and we inline them into the scoring prompt to keep results consistent, and (2) literal reproduction would create a copyright question. The paraphrasing preserves the criteria (e.g. for IELTS Speaking: Fluency & Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range & Accuracy, Pronunciation), the band granularity, and the descriptor language.

When we convert a test band to a CLB level (e.g. IELTS Listening 7.5 → CLB 8) we use IRCC's own published conversion tables from the Express Entry language-requirements page on canada.ca. The conversion logic lives in packages/language-course/src/content/rubrics/bandToCLB.ts and is mirrored against our CRS calculator (packages/immigration-engine) so the same numbers drive both surfaces.

Express Entry CRS uplift projections come from running your projected CLB profile through the same CRS calculator IRCC publishes, same formulas, same component breakdown, same tie-breaker rules.

• We are not an authorised IELTS, CELPIP, PTE Core, TEF Canada, or TCF Canada test centre.
• We do not administer the proctored exam or issue official scores. The score we predict is an estimate based on your practice performance, only the official test maker can issue your actual score.
• We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partners of IDP, British Council, Cambridge ESOL, Paragon Testing Enterprises, Pearson, France Education International, CIEP, or IRCC.
• We do not promise any specific score on the real exam. Test prep raises your odds; it does not buy a result.

When you're ready, you book the real test directly with the official test maker:

• IELTS General Training: IDP Canada or British Council.
• CELPIP-General: CELPIP / Paragon Testing.
• PTE Core: Pearson PTE Core.
• TEF Canada: France Education International.
• TCF Canada: France Education International.

The placement diagnostic currently covers listening, reading, and writing. Speaking placement is not yet included, adding it requires a reliable in-browser mic capture and scoring pipeline, which is on our roadmap.

In the meantime, the Speaking Dojo lets you practise with real exam-style cue cards: timed preparation, recording, playback, and self-rating against the official band descriptors. Self-rated scores are not psychometrically equivalent to an examiner's assessment, they are a metacognitive tool to build rubric awareness and track your subjective progress over time.

Listening items are accompanied by recorded audio scripts. We are currently rolling out voiced audio across every practice test; until a given practice test's audio is ready, you'll see a clear “Coming soon” badge on it instead of getting a broken listening experience.

Wherever the Learning Hub shows a predicted band, CLB, or CRS uplift, it is a statistical estimate derived from your practice responses and the IRCC conversion tables, not a promise of your official score. Two things make any third-party estimate inherently imprecise:

• Our items are original, not past exam papers. They mirror official format and difficulty, but item-level identity to what you'll see on test day is unknowable.
• Writing and Speaking AI scoring uses rubric-informed prompts, not the trained examiners who assess the proctored exam. Self-rated speaking scores are even more approximate.

Where the product is precise: CLB conversion tables and CRS formulas come directly from IRCC's published documents and run through the same calculator engine as the rest of ImmigratEasy. The immigration math is tight; the score input is an estimate.
